Site Security Needed More Than Ever

Beware thieves!

Beware of thieves is a more urgent slogan with the recession now biting.

The recession is providing opportunities for some; sadly, they tend to be of the dodgy kind. Already the latest Home Office quarterly figures show crime is rising, an increase being blamed on the recession:

It cannot be long before construction sites are targeted as, even in the good times, they are seen as a source of illicit gains. Valuable materials and plant will most likely be the attraction especially if building work is suspended and the contractor goes out of business.

In the latter instance an insolvency practitioner will be faced with ensuring the site is kept secure and unvandalised, often over a considerable period of time; any theft or damage could well reduce the value of the assets or the company if it is sold as a going concern.

In Partnership

A recent agreement signed by CCS with leading security operator, Securitas, shows the regard and confidence with which we are held by the industry.

The first agreement is with Securitas, one of the world’s leading security organisations. Best known for their manned guarding services, their offer includes security solutions that always involve the deployment of security officers in combination with other components including alarm, access control, and surveillance cameras together with physical security such as fences, turnstiles, and gates.

CCS’ role will be to provide our specialist construction site, void building and temporary installations expertise and know-how, including our rapid response teams and monitoring capability, to allow Securitas to provide a total security solution to the building and civil engineering industries.

We’re Expanding - Extra Staff, New Vehicles, New Offices

When many companies are hunkering down for the recession, CCS is growing.

New vans, new people.

Our business model and our customer offer are both proving right for these difficult times allowing us to take advantage of the opportunities which, despite the gloom merchants, are still out there.

CCS have recently taken on Shevang Patel while Paul Adams has rejoined us after a sabbatical in New Zealand; both are experienced installation engineers with the team being further strengthened with the appointment of an apprentice, Gino Geraldo.

More people and more contracts means more demands on our transport fleet. Two new Renault Trafic vans have, therefore, been purchased to ensure we can continue to offer a rapid installation service.

Meanwhile our Midlands Office goes from strength to strength and we are expecting to open a Northern Office during our second quarter.

CCS Takes the Lead Once Again

  Combined Wirefree Video Sendor

CCS is taking the lead in adopting the latest security technology and systems, proving we are the most advanced provider of construction safety and security systems and services.

As part of our solutions we now offer a radar-enabled thermal imaging camera, a wireless-controlled fixed night-vision camera, mobile site access control units, and a CCS-designed portable security system. Check them out by clicking on the appropriate link

  • Thermal Imaging Camera.
  • Visual Verification Alarm System.
  • Drop Down Access Control.
  • Portable Wireless Security System.

Putting the Heat On

First among CCS’ new products is a new thermal imaging camera that works in conjunction with radar to give unrivalled coverage of large sites. Seeing heat rather than light it can detect intruders at upto 1 kilometre away and, being thermal, does not need any form of lighting to provide discrete surveillance.

The powerful 36x optical camera is available with various thermal lens options and a fire mode with temperature scale.

As the first construction site company to take on this product CCS is already planning to deploy it at a 70-acre site in Derby, the size of which is ideal for its installation.

At Night

CCS is also now offering its customers a weatherproof, wireless and battery-operated fixed night-vision camera. With a battery life of upto 2-years it is perfect for alarm verification on remote and temporary sites.

When an intruder is detected the camera captures a 10 second video of the incident and sends it via the mobile phone network to CCS’ monitoring station. Each site can have upto 24 cameras and being pre-programmed they can be installed within minutes. As they are wirefree they can be easily moved between locations.

Delivered to Your Door

In fact, the IQ-Pass Control Gate is your door – to your site. Housed in a secure heavy-duty container, it is an integrated solution for access control and time registration. Consisting of security standard turnstiles and advanced access control that only permits entry for registered visitors.

Security Just In Case

A new portable wireless security system has been introduced by Clarke Construction Security (CCS) as part of its growing range of security solutions for the construction and property industries.

Called the SecuriCase, it has been designed for void buildings at a time when the economic downturn is resulting in more properties and sites being left empty and unguarded. Given its portability CCS also expect it to find applications where short-term security is required; in urgent situations where rapid deployment is vital; in smaller properties; and in the self-build market where structures are often left unprotected for extended periods.

SecuriCase consists of six radio-based passive infra-red (PIR) units, a door contact, and a GSM module that provides the connection to the mobile phone networks and the link to CCS’ monitoring station. All these are housed in a robust aluminium case to withstand the wear and tear of construction sites and buildings. Once on-site it can be discretely positioned in minutes and being battery-powered requires no permanent electrical connection allowing it to be relocated at will.

Safety & Security In Action

The effectiveness of CCS’ services is regularly proved;

Refined Security

Just before Christmas the deterrent value of CCS’ site security for void buildings was proved once again. An empty oil refinery in East London still contained a lot of old machinery, an ideal attraction for scrap metal thieves. Our CCTV and monitoring systems caught a number of intruders trying to steal the machinery, and alerted the police.

Police Chase

Police in Cobham, Surrey, successfully charged two villains as they tried to escape across a site being monitored by CCS. The CCTV footage from our cameras enabled the police to identify them. Meanwhile a bunch of kids on another of our sites were frightened out of their wits when our alarms were activated and the police arrived. Given a ticking off there’s no doubt that the kids won’t being seeing building sites as a playground any more!

When We’re Not Looking

Often, the worth of site security is revealed only after it is no longer there. While CCS were protecting the Stephen Lawrence in South London during its construction it was never vandalised. Since its opening it has been regularly targeted with considerable costly damage being caused
